As the TV world kicks into high gear with Emmys season, streaming platforms are still hard at work to bring the latest in film and television right into your homes. August’s offerings on Hulu and Disney+ include a handful of new movies, family-friendly programming, a lot of “Ice Age” and “John Wick,” and the return of Chris Hemsworth’s quest for immortality. Disney+ has livestreams planned for outdoor adventures and World Princess Week, as well as the animated anthology “Eyes of Wakanda,” set in the “Black Panther” universe; while Hulu will premiere a new season of “King of the Hill” and a two-episode limited series about the wrongfully convicted Amanda Knox.
In Noah Hawley’s latest installment to the “Alien” universe, it’s the year 2120 and our planet is ruled by corporations (yikes!). Five giants run the world: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold while humans and robots coexist (with some beings existing as a mix of both). The arrangement faces a shakeup when Prodigy C.E.O. Boy Kavalier (Samuel Blenkin) pioneers the creation of hybrids: robots who are infused with human consciousness. While test subject Wendy (Sydney Chandler) acclimates to the world and how it views her, the spaceship Maginot crashes to Earth’s surface and pushes her into the thick of the action — where a deadly threat awaits not only Wendy and her fellow hybrids, but the entire world.
Also starring Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Babou Ceesay, Adrian Edmondson, David Rysdahl, Essie Davis, Lily Newmark, Erana James, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Kit Young, Diêm Camille, Moe Bar-El, and Sandra Yi Sencindiver. Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Joseph Iberti, Dana Gonzales and Clayton Krueger also serve as executive producers with Hawley.
